11/18/20 Monthly Meeting

“When will you need family leave?”

HIT General Meeting for November 18th at 6:30-8:00 pm

At some point in their life, everyone will need to care for a family member. Whether it’s caring for a newborn, a spouse stricken with an illness or an elderly parent, time away from work is a necessity. Log onto our HIT Zoom meeting to hear Karen Showalter from MomsRising speak about the importance of paid family leave.
About MomsRising: In short, MomsRising.org is an on-the-ground and online grassroots organization of more than a million people who are working to achieve economic security for all moms, women, and families in the United States. MomsRising is working for paid family leave, earned sick days, affordable childcare, and for an end to the wage and hiring discrimination which penalizes so many mothers.
MomsRising also advocates for better childhood nutrition, health care for all, toxic-free environments, breastfeeding rights so that all children can have a healthy start, and a national budget that reflects the contributions of women and moms. Established in 2006, MomsRising and its members are organizing and speaking out to improve public policy and to change the national dialogue on issues that are critically important to America’s women and families.
Karen Showalter is a Senior Campaign Director on MomsRising’s Workplace Justice Team, where she leads efforts around paid family and medical leave, equal pay, early learning and more in Pennsylvania. Her work includes building a vibrant and powerful community of Pennsylvania parents and caregivers who understand challenges facing our families and have the skills to act on them. Karen has over 20 years experience organizing communities, training advocates, leading campaigns and building movements around social justice issues. She has previously worked with Oxfam International, Netcentric Campaigns, Americans for Informed Democracy, and the Bank Information Center, and was a Peace Corps Volunteer.
