“Act 77 of 2019 and Voter Suppression in PA”
With the November 3rd election fast approaching, nothing is more important than a free and fair election. Many reports were filed after our June 2nd Primary which illustrated that in many places throughout our commonwealth that was not the case.
Join our HIT Zoom meeting on Aug 12th at 6:30 pm to learn about our new law and what happened at the polls that day.
HIT is featuring two speakers to address voting in PA.
Carole Dascani leads Voter Registration programs of the Harrisburg Area League of Women Votes. Carole is a retired attorney and human resources executive, and a Judge of Elections in Dauphin County.
Carole will remind us of how important the passing of Act 77 was for all PA voters. Act 77 is the most significant improvement to PA elections in 80 years.
Our second speaker is Erin Kramer, Executive Director of One Pennsylvania. One Pennsylvania tackles economic justice and political participation problems in our state.
Erin will present the statewide attempts to suppress the vote especially in black and brown communities during our recent Primary Election on June
2nd.
As Pennsylvanians, we do not expect voter suppression to take place in our state. We think we are better than southern states like Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama where this happens. Find out that PA, in many cases, is not that different.
