A budget is a moral document; it is a statement of our values and priorities. We The People – PA seeks a budget that works for everyone, Black and White, Latinx and Asian, rich, and poor, native-born and immigrants.
We The People-PA is a non-partisan campaign of the PA Budget and Policy Center that aims to make state government work for all of us. Our goal is to ensure that everyone can thrive, no matter whether they are Black, brown, or white; native-born or immigrant; Asian or Latinx; poor or rich, and live in cities, suburbs or rural areas. We call for decisive leadership and bold action from state lawmakers to keep our families safe today—and to build a stronger, healthier, and more just future. For too long, we have let politicians who serve the interests of corporations and the rich divide us on the basis of what we look like, where we come from, where we worship, or how much money we have. By dividing us, they have given us public policies that do too little to help most Pennsylvanians, while making the rich and corporations wealthy.
The goal of this interactive educational workshop is to look at the challenges faced by our state government in meeting the needs of our people not just in this difficult time but beyond it. We believe the beginning of the solutions to these challenges can be found in Governor Wolf’s proposed 2021-2022 state budget, which we support.
This interactive event will look at the governor’s budget in the context of a broad, long term vision for Pennsylvania that lifts up all working people. We envision a People’s Budget process that brings our voices into the halls of Harrisburg so that we can advocate to create a state budget that works for all of us.
The pandemic has exposed the deep inequities in our society. A People’s Budget calls for:
-
Fair housing
-
Fair funding for K12
-
Fair funding for higher education
-
Fair taxes
-
Raising the minimum wage
